It happened
that le Comte Caspar accompanied me on one of my Oktopelius Piratopus
expeditions. Based on the information that the sea monster had been seen in the
Baltic Sea before, it was quickly decided what our destination would be. Not
really fond of the idea to have a long carriage trip, le Comte agreed without
wasting any words, that we should use an alternative and very seldom way of
transport. This gave me the unique possibility to travel by Morris column.
Sadly enough I am not allowed to report anything about this experience. Therefore
we just go further with the experiences at the Baltic Sea.
So we were
walking along the beach, searching intently for traces in the sand and paying
attention to unusual movements of the waves, when we suddenly came across this
little specimen of the species:
We almost
couldn’t realise how lucky we were, to be able to study a specimen of such a harmless
size and Monsieur le Comte also immediately started with the first attempt. He
wanted to know how these animals would react on the sound of a clarinet. The
first tones were not even fully played and the little one already starts to
wave wildly with its arms and starts to move around on its platform. Fascinated
by the reaction of the Oktopelius Piratopus, we only noticed at the last moment
that the play of the Comte apparently drew the attention of ‘Big Daddy’ upon
us.
We agreed
that a tactical retreat would be the best thing we could do in this case and
did a joint runner. Just when a tentacle from behind came flowing directly towards
me, le Comte pushed me bravely aside. By doing this he stumbled over a rock and
landed next to me in the sand. The fall protected him from being caught by the
tentacle, who was only rushing by centimetres above our heads. We got up and
took to our heels. The Oktopelius obviously didn’t like to move across land, he
very quickly gave up the chase. After his brave forward dive Le Comte Caspar
ended up with a broken toe and a dented Blubberbrigade captain’s hat.
We are now analysing
the collected experiences and testing them on their applicability for other
missions.
